CREATIVE PROCESS

Provided by Client

My client only had a photo of what feteera looked like, Arabic writing, and an ingredient list. An inspirational picture was shown to consider.

Research

It was important to uncover the history of feeter meshaltet, and what I discovered was fascinating! In ancient Egyptian times it was an offering to the gods. It was the most generous offering of hospitality to a guest in your home after that. It was the inspiration of the French croissant.

Insights

My research suggested that the inspiration provided was too European and completely inappropriate for the lore and importance that feetera has in Arabian culture. It was baked and offered to the ‘gods’ way back in the earliest of Egyptian history in simple earthen ovens. It became a prized delicacy and ultimate symbol of hospitality and remains to this day. Eventually, it reached France where it inspired the beloved croissant we know and love! I also learned how to properly format Arabic writing (right to left direction and calligraphically joined!)
