My daughter has shown me that playing with the Nintendo Wii can not only be fun, but also quite a workout! After watching her run for miles using the Wii Fit game, breaking a sweat, huffing and puffing and having the time of her life… I gave it a try.  All I can say is almost 20 years of time spent sitting at drafting tables and computers designing, having 2 kids, running a business and frankly, really a lifetime of preferring more artistic than athletic endeavors has made me more jiggly in areas that I’d prefer not to be! 🙂

The Wii Fit game can provide a full body workout doing yoga, strength training, balance games and cardio games like running, hula hoop, step aerobics etc. If you choose carefully and keep at it for 30 mins at least you can feel it, but it doesn’t feel like a non-stop workout as you change games etc. breaks the momentum.  We also have the ‘Active Life – Outdoor Challenge‘ with the mat – doing activities like kayaking, log jumping, stomping moles and mine cart racing etc. These are a lot of fun too – when playing with your kids! 🙂 Lots of giggles especially when I’m particularly non-coordinated!

Our fun Wii workouts are even better now that we have the Wii EA SPORTS Active – it provides a wide variety of cardio, upper and lower body activities, as well as different sports like basketball, baseball, volleyball, kickboxing, inline skating, boxing and more.  The training automatically evolves the variety and intensity of the workouts the more you use it. It came with a resistance band and a leg strap so that your virtual ‘you’ on screen reflects your actual movement and your trainer can correct you or provide tips or encouragement.  We both take turns and laugh and cheer each other on – really isn’t like exercising at all, yet you burn calories like crazy. I highly recommend it for any computer potatoes out there!! :)  I’ve started the 30-day challenge… will let you know it goes!
