semacode

What you are looking at is a “semacode” tag for www.happyfish.com. I first read about the whirlwind of tagging technology available for today’s camera phones at TrendWatching.com. There are MANY companies with different technologies that use different types of codes – color codes, custom logo codes, pixel-reading codes that just ‘know’ what to find when you click your camera phone at a photo in a poster, magazine, on TV, or whatever. I wasn’t really surprised at all by the number of companies using this technology. The general idea, is that you download the software onto your camera phone – and then whenever you see the code – you click a shot of it, and your web browser on your phone will automatically take you to a set website linked to that code to direct you to more information, special offers, freebies or whatever. Some of the other companies that are doing this include KoolTag, UpCodes, ColorCodes, MCode, ShotCodes, iScout, Tagit, Mobot, PaperClick and SemaPedia. Making the codes is kinda fun – and in some instances free … the branding possibilities are unlimited. People are making t-shirts with their code on it even. Now you don’t have to punch in a website url anymore, you can just take a photo of it and have your phone do the rest. This technology isn’t just for marketing folks, people are having fun with it putting codes on in different places for people to find and linking the codes up to more information about the location.
